These are only four kinds of the approximately 12,000 species of moss I found on the rocks, a tree and on the soil. And I thought a moss is a moss is a moss is a moss… never have I given so much attention for this particular work of nature; only when I heard an old proverb that says, “A rolling stone gathers no moss,“ which means those who keep moving never lack for fresh ideas or creativity. Another interpretation is, when people, who are always moving, with no roots in one place, avoid responsibilities and cares.
Basically mosses are soft small plants that grow close together in clumps in a damp shady location. They are non-vascular plants, so they don’t have water-bearing vessels or veins and bears no flowers nor fruits, cones nor seeds. They are non-woody and just absorb water and nutrients through their leaves.

They are so beautiful! I’ve never seen moss through a macro lens before. It looks incredibly lush. I didn’t realise they have no vessels in them. How amazing!
